Bringing Baby Home

Course Level: Introductory/Beginner

Bringing Baby Home is a 12-hour workshop developed by The Gottman Institute to support couples in maintaining and strengthening their relationship during the transition to parenthood. This workshop provides couples with practical skills to preserve relationship satisfaction as they navigate the challenges of becoming parents together.

Created by renowned relationship experts Drs. John and Julie Gottman at The Relationship Research Institute in Seattle, Bringing Baby Home draws on the Gottmans’ extensive research, which reveals that the arrival of a baby often leads to a significant decline in relationship satisfaction. Their studies also show that relationship conflict and tension can have a deeply negative impact on infants and toddlers.

Through the workshop, couples will learn valuable tools for balancing the demands of parenthood with the needs of their relationship, improving communication, and providing mutual support through the common challenges they face.

In this 12-hour workshop, you'll learn:

  • Effective strategies for easing the transition to parenthood

  • Ways to preserve relationship satisfaction after the arrival of a baby

  • Techniques to lower relationship tension and foster greater affection

  • Tips for promoting positive interactions between parents and their baby

  • Approaches to lessen the occurrence and impact of postpartum mood disorders
